Trust in the Power of God Trying to find balance and peace in our lives as mothers can be a true challenge. With so much on our plates, from carpools to laundry to lunches to play dates to temper tantrums and so on, we often feel pulled in a million different directions at the same time. We may even find ourselves wondering if we can physically make it through some of the more challenging days. It is during these times, when we are at the end of our rope and our batteries are blinking red, God calls us to turn to Him and trust in Him the most. He asks us to give Him our troubles, allowing His grace to abundantly bless us with the strength to conquer anything. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, NIV). When we allow ourselves to fully trust in the Lord, becoming vulnerable and acknowledging that we need help, He has the power to turn our weaknesses into our greatest strengths. If we are short on patience, we can call upon the Lord and He will calm our hearts. If we are low on energy, we can tell the Lord and He will give us strength to climb mountains. If we are lacking in kindness, we can give it to the Lord, and He will overflow our hearts with abundant love. Philippians 4:13 reminds us “All things are possible through Christ who gives us strength.” As a mom, this passage has become my daily manta (if not hourly manta). As struggles and stresses elevate throughout my hectic days, I repeat this passage out load again and again, allowing God’s powerful grace to fully cover the situation and give me the strength, peace, and courage to get through it. My kids sometime look at me like I am crazy, but for me, saying it out load centers my heart on the Lord and allows His powerful presence to surround and protect me. Lately, when my 7 year old is frustrated by his little brothers pestering, I hear from a distance his sweet voice calling out “All things are possible though Christ who gives us strength.” When we call out to the Lord, He gives us strength to overcome all things! It is like plugging into a heavenly power source, giving our batteries a needed recharge. All we have to do is choose to plug in! Whenever we feel drained, God tells us “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NIV). He gives us His endless supply of power whenever we choose to prayerfully trust in Him. But if we choose to run through life solely on our own strength, we will always be tired and running low on fuel. Without God’s powerful love to energize our lives, it like trying to charge our cell phones without a power source. It simply will not happen. God doesn’t want us to go through life with a worn out battery and no way to charge it. He wants us to connect with Him, every hour, every minute, of every day! When we choose to plug into God’s unlimited power source, trusting fully in Him, we are given the strength to handle anything, even motherhood! For meditation: What areas of your life do you need to trustingly give to the Lord? What times in your day do you feel low on energy, low on patience, or low on peace? Take a moment in meditation to prayerfully plug into the Lord’s powerful supply, allowing Him to fill you with energy, patience, and peace to handle all that motherhood brings your way.
